DUI Multiple Offender Program – An Important Step in Eradication of Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction in Georgia

May 18th, 2008

The DUI program of Georgia is indeed quite strict, but it is quite justified if you consider the extent of alcohol addiction in Georgia. DUI is responsible for hundreds of accidents in the state in which lives are lost, properties are damaged and a lot worse is done.

The state has now begun working on a firm footing to answer this problem. A prominent step in that direction is the DUI Multiple Offender Program which is targeted at people who have been repeat offenders of DUI.By definition, you are a DUI multiple offender if you have arrested at least twice in the last five years for driving under influence. This means you become a DUI multiple offender even if there is just one repeat arrest after one DUI offense. In such a scenario, you will have to undergo a program that is approved by the Department of Human Resources. This program is titled as the DUI Alcohol Risk Reduction Program, and there’s an analogous program to answer the problem of substance abuse in Georgia, which is known as the DUI Drug Risk Reduction Program. These programs are dispensed by a professional who is licensed by the state to impart such addiction counseling.

In order to make sure that the crimes due to alcohol abuse in Georgia are reduced, the government ensures that the person attends the program without missing a single session. The programs can be long; the least duration of the program is 17 weeks, while the maximum duration is a year. If specific medical treatment is required, the Clinical Evaluator of the program decides that.
