Is Someone in Your Family Opposing a Drug Addiction Intervention Program

April 29th, 2008

Think of this situation – someone in your family is unfortunately struck by drug addiction. It is very important to pull them out of the addiction.

But the problem is, they do not realize that something is wrong with them, and do not want to go ahead with treatment. What do you do? You take stock of the situation. But you find out that you are not qualified to deal with this situation of drug abuse treatment yourself. This is when you decide upon hiring an interventionist. You have a meeting with them, the intervention tells you that you as a family group can intervene and encourage the person for addiction treatment. Everything is set. But then you realize, to your utter frustration, that there are some people in your family who are opposed to the intervention.Isn’t this situation irritating? You are planning on going ahead and making provisions for the person to obtain the best drug addiction treatment. But you find that you are not getting the participation you expected.

When this happens, instead of tearing your hair apart, try to speak rationally with the person of your family who is not willing to participate in the intervention. Find out their reasons. Express to them that nothing is more important than pulling your mutual family member out of the drug addiction. That should make them see reason.

In most cases, certain people are reluctant to intervene because they do not know how this method works and are still apprehensive about it. This is where you have to educate them on this amazing technique and get them to participate. If you feel that you are drawing a blank, arrange a meeting between them and a professional interventionist, who will tell them in detail about the treatment process. If that won’t work, nothing will.
