The Format of an Addiction Treatment Program at a Treatment Center
For long term drug and alcohol abuse addicts, a treatment center becomes the only way in which they can come out of their addiction. These places are quite well equipped in providing the patients with all the medical, mental and moral care that is needed to come out of the habit.
This is what a typical addiction treatment center will do. The first approach will be to have some sessions with the patient and the family if available to gauge the extent of the addiction. Based on that, a program will be chalked out. In some of the better rehab centers, individualistic programs are chalked out for each person that walks in. In fact, if you are looking for a rehab center to get someone enrolled in, make sure that you get one that has such individualistic approaches.
This is the time when it will be decided whether an inpatient or an outpatient treatment program will be better for the person. For inpatient addiction treatment programs, the persons will be first housed in comfortable settings where they will have to spend a few days or probably weeks, depending on the extent of the addiction.
A medical therapy will be started and the substance will be totally restricted. This will certainly bring in terrible withdrawal symptoms. The person will become quite uncontrollable at this time, and will go to any lengths to get some of the substance. However, the treatment centers are well-equipped to face such situations. Further medications are given to ease the withdrawal pangs.
Once the withdrawal is done, the initial problems are over. The person is now somewhat stable, and a routine therapy is employed to help the person come out of the addiction completely.
After the person is discharged, there are routine checkups and counseling sessions so that the person does not veer towards the addiction again.
