Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center
What is it that makes a drug and alcohol treatment center effective? Some of the most successful centers cater to the addict’s needs. No two addicts are alike, just like no two treatments should be alike.
An addict that is triggered to drink or do drugs by loneliness will not need the same treatment as one who is triggered by feelings of inadequacy. While one may cause the other, the underlying cause needs to be addressed. In an effective treatment center, the physical is addressed along with the psychological, and emotional. It would be a wasted effort to treat the physical symptoms of detoxification and withdrawal without also treating the emotional and psychological symptoms as well. This would be equivalent to putting a band aid on a cut without first cleaning out the infection. Or it would be like bandaging a person who has just been in a car accident and then ignoring the fact that they shake every time they get near a vehicle. Neither of these people have been helped by just taking care of the physical.
When a center caters to the individual, they will deal with underlying causes of the drug addiction, triggers, so that the addict knows what makes them vulnerable to begin with, allowing them to avoid those situations, and physical damage done by drugs so they can stay on the long road to recovery. Even though the addiction treatment center is not the end of the road for addicts, it can be a wonderful beginning. Every journey has to start somewhere.
