Addiction recovery is a skill that is learned over time. It is not something you can expect to handle properly yourself. You wouldn’t attempt to fix any other medical problems on your own. Don’t feel that you should bear the work of drug rehabilitation on your own. We have helped numerous addicts before you. We know that the true strength of any drug abuse treatment program comes from the will power of the addict. But the final piece that makes that will power effective is a facility like ours. (more…)

Brief interventions are short counseling sessions to help an individual who suffers from mild to moderate alcohol abuse. They are taught methods for reducing their alcohol intake in a series of one to four meetings, in order to avoid the negative consequences of drinking excessively. Brief interventions are most effective for those who participate in binge drinking on an occasional basis. Five or more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women qualify as binge drinking. There are a number of ways to make these counseling sessions as beneficial as possible. (more…)

Drug Addiction: Not an Isolated Event

March 20th, 2008

Drug addiction is rarely an isolated event. Addicts usually get introduced to drugs by a friend. They later go on to use in social situations. Eventually they will even become the friend that does the introduction to drugs for someone else. It is through this kind of powerful networking that drug abuse spreads. There is no reason that the power of relationships should be reserved for the abusers. We can help you harness this same power with an intervention. (more…)

Addiction and Dysfunctional Families

March 18th, 2008

drugs15.jpg

Alcohol and drug addictions are more likely than not to cause dysfunctional family relationships. A dysfunctional family is one in which the abuse of one or more family members causes others to make accommodations for their actions. Reading this definition, it is easy to see how it’s so strongly related to addiction. The individual with an alcohol or drug abuse problem disrupts the other’s lives greatly. Loved ones engage in patterns of enabling and codependency, which make it easier for the addict to continue destructive behaviors. They make excuses for the addict’s actions. Family members don’t do this intentionally, but it is a natural reaction. (more…)

One of the biggest concerns that people have when looking for an addiction treatment program is the cost. The average cost of outpatient services in the United States is little over $1300. The average stay at a residential rehab facility runs around a few thousand dollars, and for certain types of treatment the figure can go much, much higher. There are various resources available to help people pay for an addiction center and the necessary help to begin a new life. (more…)

Drug Detox Program

March 15th, 2008

If you are not familiar with the way that a drug detox program works, it is actually quite simple. When you decide that you are ready to face your drug addiction, you can go to the nearest treatment center and check in. They will ask you some questions about the kind of drug abuse that you want to overcome as well as some health questions to determine what kind of treatment will work for you. It is vital that you be as honest as you can when answering these questions if you want the drug detox program to be effective.

Once it is determined which method the drug treatment center will use to begin the drug detox process, they will admit you and you will be placed under the care of a physician. In the event that you are suffering from a psychological addiction, you may also be placed under the care of a psychologist. This is perfectly normal and you should not be ashamed. A drug addiction may have underlying causes that must be discovered if treatment is going to be successful. If these issues are not discussed, your drug treatment may not be successful.

The first few days in a drug detox program will be difficult to get through. However, you will have plenty of care and if you can stick with it, your condition will improve. You may need to be sedated, depending on the types of withdrawal symptoms you are going through. In the case of a heroin addiction, you may also need to be given methadone to assist in the withdrawal process.

Once you get through the first week, your symptoms should begin to fade and you can start dealing with the reasons behind your drug addiction and how best to resolve them so you can get on the road to recovery.

Benefits of Addiction Treatment

March 14th, 2008

Addiction treatment can have numerous benefits for someone suffering from alcoholism or drug abuse. There is a common misconception that treatment programs don’t work. In reality, research shows that they are quite effective when the correct treatment center is chosen. Addicts also commonly try to convince everyone that they can handle their problems on their own. Once again, this is very rarely the case. Rehab facilities make it much more likely for an individual to recover without frequent relapses.

Your Committment is Needed

March 13th, 2008

drugs1.jpg

Drug rehabilitation is not a simple process, it will take a full commitment on your part. That commitment alone will not be enough. Your self control and dedication are, I’m sure, impressive but no one can realistically expect to control their addiction through sheer will power. The grasp that drugs take on people’s lives are just to strong and are usually so well entrenched by the time addiction treatment programs are even considered that the thought of going it alone is just unrealistic.
